Water Resource Planning Institute (WRPI) held the technical training courses of 2022 Technical Assistance and Cooperation under Appendix No. 8 to the Agreement between TECRO and AIT for Water Resources on February 14th - 18th, inviting the experts Dr. Yong Lai, Dr. Ben Abban and Ms. Angela Medina from the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR), Mr. Scott Hogan from Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to Taiwan for international exchanges and cooperation.
The training courses were carried out during February 14th -16th, 2023 in WRPI, Wufeng, Taichung. Three instructors Dr. Yong Lai, Dr. Ben Abban, and Mr. Scott Hogan served as speakers (shown as Pic. 1). The contents of training courses include SRH-2D for advanced hydraulic simulation, watershed modeling for runoff and soil erosion with SRH-W and new environmental research at Reclamation and FHWA. After the training courses, the experts visited Director Lai Chien-Hsin in Water Resources Agency (WRA). Director Lai shared experiences and insights on water resource management techniques with the experts from the United States (shown as Pic. 2). On February 17th -18th, the participants have went on field visits to study sites: Shihmen Reservoir Watershed and Tamsui River Estuary and discussed with the staffs of Northern Region Water Resources Office and 10th River Management Office, WRA about the numerical improvement and the subsequent cooperation content in 2023 (shown as Pic. 3 and Pic. 4). Through training courses and field visits, the participants have gained many valuable experiences and looks forward to ongoing cooperation between Taiwan and the United States.
