1992 The Xiluo engineering team was established.
2000 The environmental report of Hushan and Hunan Reservoirs Project was approved by the Environmental Protection Administration.
2001 The Executive Yuan approved the Hushan and Hunan Reservoirs Project. In the same year, the Executive Yuan agreed to rename the "Hushan and Hunan Reservoirs Project" as "Hushan Reservoir Project".
2002 The Hushan Reservoir Project was approved for development by the Ministry of the Interior.
2004 The member of the Control Yuan went to the Hushan Reservoir to observe the protective forest canceling problem and the Fairy Pitta conservation problem.
2006 The estimates of Hushan Reservoir Project in 2006 were approved by the Legislative Yuan.
2008 Guiding the water of the Nanshenkeng River into Hunan Dam Tunnel was completed.
2011 The Environmental Protection Administration won the lawsuit of the Hushan Reservoir Project.
2014-2015 The headrace construction of the Hushan Reservoir Dam Project was completed.
2016 The Hushan Reservoir Management Center was established on 6th January 2016.
The pipeline test of the downstream of the Hushan Reservoir was completed on 9th August 2016.
The Hushan Reservoir began to store water on 2nd April 2016.
The Hushan Reservoir began to operate on 5th July 2016.
  1. Project summary

    In 1980, due to the difficulties of economic development, and the problem of water demand in Yunlin area, the Water Resources Planning Institute took charge of the “Small and Medium Reservoir Planning in Yunlin Area”, and investigated the comprehensive exploration of water resources in Yunlin, finally completed the planning of small and medium-sized reservoirs in Yunlin area. In 1992, for the purpose of the public water in Yunlin area and the urgent needs for industrial water of the Sixth Naphtha Cracker and Yunlin Outlying Islands Industrial Zone, the reservoir water resources development survey in Yunlin area were carried out, and the feasibility planning of Hushan and Hunan Reservoirs in Yunlin County was completed in 2000.

    This project was approved by the Executive Yuan in 2001. The total budget is about NTD16.244 billion. The dam construction was completed on 5th July 2014. The reservoir began to store water on 2nd April 2016, and began to operate on 5th July 2016. The location of the reservoir is in Figure 1.

  3. Planning process and results

    1. The work team of planning

      The Hushan Reservoir planning was conducted by the Water Resources Planning Institute, the Hydrotech Research Section assisted with the hydraulic model test, the River Management Section operated downstream river improvement, the Geotech Research Section and the Central Geological Survey executed dam material investigation, geological survey and drilling.     2. The process of planning.

      1. Dam location plan

        1. The Hushan main dam

          The Hushan reservoir is an off-stream reservoir. In addition to the runoff from the catchment, we use the Tongtou Weir to obtain water from the Qingshui River. The height of the main dam is 75 meters, the elevation is 215 meters, and the width of the dam is 570 meters.

        2. The Hushan minor dam

          The Hushan minor dam is located in the southwest of the main dam.

        3. The Hunan dam

          After the suggestion of investigation and planning team in May 1994, it proposed to make the dam axis of Hushan main dam, Hushan minor dam and Hunan dam connected into a line, as shown in Figure 3.

      2. The transbasin water diversion project

        There are six options for the trans-basin water diversion project. The routes of the diversion projects are along the river line, as shown in Figure 4. After evaluation, the option 5 is selected.

      3. Planning profiles

        The relevant dam and weir data are shown in Table 2. The layout plan is detailed in Figure 5. After the reservoir is completed, the completed view of Hushan Reservoir is in Figure 6.
