To improve the ability of national disaster prevention, WRPI has developed 2D Flood Inundation Map. Through the integration advantage of FEWS_Taiwan and the standardized procedures, each counties’ and cities’ SOBEK 2D Flood Inundation Map Model (SOBEK-2D) are connected, and through the precipitation data provided by the Central Weather Bureau and FEWS_Taiwan’s scheduling operations, Flood Early Warning System is able to regularly perform real-time simulation of the 2D flooding model and testing of flooding warning function.

This research has completed the connection of the SOBEK-2D for Taichung City, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County to FEWS_Taiwan in order to test whether the flooding warning function can satisfy the need for multiple forecasts within one day. Also, this system has to operate and finish calculating within one hour during a typhoon, so the allocation of computer and internet resources are critical. The warning system cannot be interrupted, which means that a backup system has to be set up to keep the warning system functional during typhoons. The result will be used as a reference for the connections of the SOBEK-2D for all cities to FEWS_Taiwan in the future. The operational testing of Flood Early Warning System is shown in Figure 1.
