On August 21st, the Interdepartmental Rapid Response Team from Friendly Country -Belize visited our institute for technical exchange. The team members include experts from different fields including National Meteorological Service, NEMO, National Fire Service, Department of Environment, Hydrology Unit, Ministry of Natural Resources. Our staff members arranged the operating of field flood prevention engineering and related water resources experiments, including the Yuansantze diversion channel, Erchong floodway, Jiji weir, and desilting tunnel of Shihmen reservoir, etc. The purpose of the arrangement is aimed to help the team quickly grasped phenomena through these models, like the efficiency of Yuansantze diversion channel and density currents in Shimen reservoir…etc. (shown as Pic. 1~Pic. 3).
In addition to the operating of physical models, the team members also visited the current meter calibration laboratory, and preliminary understood the hydraulic instrument inspection in Taiwan. The content of the discussions between the two sides included the strategy of flood prevention and water resources, hydrological design adaptation to climate change, key engineering design and planning concepts…etc.
Through the visits and discussions, the team and our staff members expressed that they have gained a lot from each other. During the meeting, the chairman Tsai got team members the publications as gifts on behalf of our institute (shown as Pic. 4). The participants took a group photo happily and looked forward to further exchanges (shown as Pic. 5).
