Disaster Resilience Plan of the Laonong River Approved by the Executive Yuan

  1. Disaster Resilience Plan of the Laonong River, formulated with the assistance of Water Resources Planning Branch, has been approved by the Executive Yuan on July 1st. The plan will now be jointly implemented by the Water Resources Agency and the Agency of Rural Development and Soil and Water Conservation. The objective is to enhance the disaster resilience of the Laonong River and improve its water storage capacity during dry periods.
  2. To enhance disaster resilience in the upper reaches of the Laonong River, the Water Resources Agency will employ strategies such as deep channel dredging and flow-constricting sediment transport. These measures will expedite the natural sediment discharge of the river, gradually transporting sediment from the upper reaches to the mid and lower sections of the river. In tandem with dredging operations, sediment will be removed from the riverbed, thereby naturally accelerating the reduction of upstream sediment accumulation.
